Ingredients
3 1/2 Pounds Baking apples (about 10)
1/2 Cup Butter, melted
3/4 Cup, plus 2 Tbsp Flour,
3/4 Cup, plus 2 Tbsp Brown sugar
3/4 Cup Oats
2/3 Cup Walnuts
1 Tsp Salt
3 Tbsp Lemon juice
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
1/2 Cup Brown sugar (separated for filling)
1 Tbsp Corn starch
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F
- Add the melted butter, flour, oats, chopped walnuts, salt and the 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp of brown sugar to a bowl. Mix until everything is incorporated.
- Peel, core and slice the apples. I use a mandolin on the thickest setting so they are all the same thickness. Aim for about 1/4 inch.
- Add the sliced apples to a bowl with the reserved 1/2 cup of brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and corns starch. Use clean washed hands to toss until apples are evenly coated.
- Add the apple mixture to a greased pie pan, baking dish or 9 inch prepared crust. Take handfuls of the crumble and squeeze it in your hands before distributing onto of the apples. This will help form large chunks of crumble.
- Once apples are generously topped with crumble. Bake at 350 for an hour and 15 minutes. If you see the crumble browning too fast, lay a piece of tin foil over the crisp.
- Serve warm with a dollop of ice cream!
